My first job was working with my Dad at his sign manufacturing company when I was around 14 years old. I worked here some weekends and during holidays. I got my first real job when I was 18 and starting college working weekends and holidays in McDonald's. I worked here for around 14 months until I moved to Austria to study abroad for one year. While living in Austria I worked in an Irish Pub around 3 days a week. After my year in Austria I moved to Canada for the summer and worked in a container loading warehouse. I came back to Ireland after summer and got a jopb working in Carphone Warehouse while I was in my final year of college. I wokred in Carphone Warehouse for 18 months until the company closed down.
I am a customer consultant in this job. I sell people phones, broadband and other tech accessories. I listen to the customers’ requirements and find a product to fit their needs. This involves paying attention to the customers’ needs, suggesting possible products for them and showing them why that product is most suitable for them. I consistently meet my sales targets while working in Carphone and have been rewarded “Employee of the month” several times. This position includes administrative work, such as weekly audits, cash up and cash collections, contracts, insurance certificates and training of new staff.
This was my summer job while I was in Vancouver. I worked 06:45-16:00 Monday to Friday with this job. I would be loading and unloading boxes from one container to another. These boxes varied from 5kg to 25kg. I was placed in charge of the loading side of the warehouse I worked in within 3 weeks of working here. It was an extremely fast paced environment where we would get paid directly proportionally to the amount of work we completed.
I work every weekend and some weekdays here. It is a Bar/restaurant in Graz, Austria. While working here I make and serve people drinks, bring people food, clean and prepare the bar when opening and closing. We did table service here and also counter service.
I have been trained in many different areas after working in McDonald’s for over a year. Such as manual handling, health and safety, customer service, and how to use different specialist machines. I learned a lot about dealing with the public with this job and which has helped me a lot in other jobs and everyday life.
