Job Description

Trócaire works in partnership with local organisations in the Global South and with people in Ireland to tackle the root causes of poverty and injustice. Together, we create positive and lasting change.

Trócaire works in up to 20 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

This post is situated within the Programme Impact and Learning (PIL) Team in Trócaire. PIL works with country teams and HQ teams to:

  • Strengthen programme quality processes within international and Ireland-facing programmes,
  • Support increased accountability to communities within projects and grants, with a particular focus on learning, strengthening community participation and ownership at every stage of the programme cycle.
  • Strengthen organisational systems and processes which facilitate learning and organisational effectiveness.
  • The post holder will lead on initiatives which strengthen knowledge sharing and learning in Trócaire’s humanitarian, development and Ireland-facing programmes.

    Collaboration with HQ and country-based colleagues, particularly MEAL, Programme and Humanitarian Advisors, and with partners, both remotely and through field visits, is key to the success of this role.

    Reporting to Head of Programme Impact and Learning, this is a 3-year fixed term contract and will be based in Maynooth, Ireland with frequent travel to country programmes .

    Key Duties amp; Responsibilities

    Knowledge Sharing amp; Learning

    • Identify and establish systems and processes which support greater knowledge and learning generation, production and communication.
    • These should include:

    o Develop learning strategies and learning plans for Trócaire’s Global Programmes, International and Ireland-Outreach Divisions

    o Design and implement internal knowledge management and learning activities to ensure more effective and efficient knowledge sharing across the organisation, building on learning from previous knowledge management initiatives and making effective use of learning from programme reviews and evaluations.

    o Develop and refine tools and processes to ensure learning is utilised to support adaptive and agile programming.

    o Ensure tools and processes developed facilitate the active engagement of partners and the people supported by Trócaire’s work in shaping and participating in learning activities.

    o Review of the current management and use of programme evaluations reviews to strengthen programme quality.

    o Strengthen colleagues’ and partners’ capacities in the use of knowledge management tools.

    o Work with the colleagues within PIL and across the organisation to identify opportunities to strengthen learning and knowledge sharing.

    • Provide direct support to country teams and other colleagues seeking to improve knowledge sharing and learning.
    • Oversee the management of the learning and knowledge management commitments in Trócaire’s new five-year Irish Aid grant.
    • Continue to build an evidence base regarding benefits and best practice in knowledge sharing and learning.
    • Engage in organisational initiatives which provide opportunities for improved learning, coordination, and impact.
    • Develop a process for colleagues within the Global Programmes Division to analyse organisational data and to extract learnings on issues such as reach and impact.
