Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

Supporting the Senior Development Technologist in the delivery of new and existing product development activity across the NPD and Innovation function at Kepak. Working on projects from concept to launch, whilst adhering to the Kepak NPD processes. Working with the Technical Team to ensure quality standards are achieved. Demonstrating efficient ways of working in line with the critical path.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities associated with this role include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Support the senior development technologist and wider development team in the development of new products. Aim is to meet a product brief across Brand and Private Label products within the portfolio, in line with the Kepak NPD process and Stage Gates.
  • Evaluating existing and new raw materials in line with the sustainability agenda and government legislations. Ensuring NPD projects are aligned by working closely with technical, operations and purchasing to contribute to successful product launches.
  • Running and documenting competitor newness panels and presenting this information back to the internal team, where applicable.
  • Present ideas, products, and information clearly and accurately to stakeholders with support from the relevant function.
  • Ability to plan, organize and control own projects i.e., timelines, ingredients and packaging material lead times, and supplier communications to an agreed timescale and standard.
  • Initiating and leading factory trials internally and together with suppliers to ensure optimization of product, process, cost amp; quality.
  • Creation and circulation of relevant NPD documents in line with Kepak NPD process to satisfy audit requirements.
  • Supporting operations, technical and purchasing to ensure all potential future changes are managed appropriately (e.g. onboarding of suppliers, technical transfers of current ingredients, shelf-life extensions etc.)
  • Working with purchasing amp; suppliers to ensure that the product procured matched the product brief.
  • Organizing new product panels and samples/ benchmarks to wider team for review/ feedback and to present products in the portfolio to customers.
  • May have line management accountability of an NPD assistant in the future.
  • Assisting in the testing and validation of products throughout development process.
  • Performing cooking validations
  • Supporting in sensory analysis reviews for projects and consumer paneling
  • Organise product and sample submissions to customers and participating in internal and external presentations
  • Completion and recording of customer trackers, product costings, sensory analysis trials, competitor benchmarking and shelf-life analysis trials from an organoleptic and microbiological point of view
  • Complete and sign off finished product specifications and Quality Attribute Standards in conjunction with Technical Team for all new lines
  • Attend NPD/ EPD trials and first productions where required

Requirements

SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in the manufacture of Food products
  • Strong process and factory application skills
  • A strong command of written and spoken English
  • Confident in the use of Excel and Microsoft office

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • A passion for food with an interest in food trends
  • Good organisation and time management skills with the ability to prioritise your workload to meet deadlines.
  • Diligent with a keen eye for detail.
  • Full Driving License
  • Willingness to travel between production sites, to suppliers and to customers on occasion.
