Smart Wires is currently looking for a Senior Director of Project Management based in Europe to lead our European Project Management team.
The Position
We are looking for an experienced leader of project managers who is comfortable partnering with senior electric utility customers to iron out a difficult issue, and equally comfortable diving into project schedules and budgets to understand and mitigate risk. The Senior Director of Project Management in Europe will lead a regional team with ownership of scope, schedule, and cost for our portfolio of SmartValve projects all over Europe. The Senior Director will drive project management best practices and accountability within their team, will ensure safe and efficient management of work, and will coach and mentor a dynamic team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators. The successful candidate will partner with our Commercial team on upcoming deals to ensure commitments are understood and achievable. They will work with contract management to identify, onboard, and manage any contractors or vendors who support work in the region, and they will represent progress, issues, and risks to our executive team using clear communication and well organized project management tools and methods.
Primary Responsibilities
- Delight our customers with professionalism, expertise, and approach. This leader will own project success and client relationships from Purchase Order to Project Close and must be attuned to both customer and commercial team concerns, proactively engaging and resolving on both ends.
- Lead a dynamic team of Project Managers. As the European lead, you will ensure your team operates at a high level, uses sound project management practices, and works well collaboratively. You will deliver feedback both positive and constructive freely, and will accept the same from others.
- Deliver European projects to meet scope, schedule, cost while maintaining safety and quality. As the overall project portfolio owner, the Sr. Director will work with their Project Management team to balance the overall regional portfolio and will ensure accurate, up-to-date forecasting, early signaling of scope, schedule, or cost variance, and will drive solid, value-driven decision-making.
- Identify and mitigate project risks. As the team and regional leader, the Sr. Director will help the Project team with risk identification and mitigation. They should have a forward looking mindset as to what could go wrong so that we anticipate and resolve issues before they occur.
- Engage subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand project requirements and SmartValve device capabilities. You don’t need to be a SME on high voltage power electronic equipment yourself, but curiosity and a willingness and ability to learn quickly and work and communicate effectively with SMEs on highly technical topics will be essential.
- Prioritize and organize across your team to maximize customer and stakeholder value and ensure high quality delivery. The Senior Director will need to be excellent at clarifying priorities and resources across the project portfolio always in collaboration with customers and our commercial team’s input.
- Lead with a continuous improvement mindset. Flawless execution is always our goal. When we fall short, we learn from mistakes and get better going forward. The Senior Director will be responsible for implementing standardization of methods, tools, and approach (where appropriate) within the project portfolio and driving continuous improvement always.
