Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The successful candidate, reporting to the Director of Education and Community, will have a leadership and management role in the day-to-day operations of Jigsaw’s work in education settings. As a proactive self-starter, they will be a creative and persuasive communicator with a strong focus on developing sustainable relationships with a wide range of internal and external audiences in line with Jigsaw’s vision to bring about an Ireland where every young person’s mental health is valued and supported.

The post holder will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of Jigsaw’s evolving programmes of work in further and higher education settings. They will work strategically and collaboratively with the other Youth Mental Health Promotion Managers within the Department, as well as the Youth Participation Manager, towards achieving the following overall aim: ‘To better inform, support, educate and empower young people themselves and those around them, in settings where young people live, learn, work and play, in order to increase understanding of our collective role in promoting and supporting young people’s mental health’ (Jigsaw Strategy, 2018-2020).

This is a full time, fixed term role (3 year contract), based in Dublin 2 (working remote currently).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Oversee the expansion of Jigsaw’s mental health promotion work in further and higher education settings through the development of an overarching framework, a 3-year implementation plan and annual action plans for our work in these settings.
  • Work strategically with key national stakeholders and partners to progress Jigsaw’s work in these settings, ensuring a collaborative approach and avoiding duplication.
  • Work collaboratively with Jigsaw’s elearning and digital teams and with 3rd level students themselves, to further develop a range of relevant online content and courses to support the mental health and wellbeing of students.
  • In collaboration with the wider Education Team, oversee the implementation of an online, interactive Learning Management System to facilitate the management, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of our work in further and higher education settings.
  • Work closely with colleagues and Jigsaw leadership teams to build the capacity of Jigsaw staff to deliver key programmes and initiatives within these settings.
  • Provide leadership and management to direct reports through line management, supervision and support.
  • Oversee the monitoring of KPIs relating to Jigsaw’s work in these settings and ensure Jigsaw Services receive adequate support to meet agreed targets.
  • Work closely with the research and evaluation team in the design and implementation of a robust evaluation framework for our work in these settings.
  • Stay current with international developments in youth mental health education and promotion and adapt innovative programmes and practices to continually enhance Jigsaw’s youth mental health promotion agenda.

Requirements

Essential Criteria:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Masters level qualification in Health Promotion or MA Education or Professional Masters in Education PME), or a relevant 3rd level qualification in an allied health profession (i.e. psychology, mental health nursing, occupational therapy only).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ work experience in a role where mental health amp; wellbeing promotion in education settings were key responsibilities preferably in further and/or higher education settings.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience of line management, support and supervision of staff/teams.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience of managing large scale projects/initiatives.

Knowledge amp; Skills:

  • Ability to demonstrate experience of employing core competencies and skills e.g. knowledge of mental health and wellbeing concepts and principles, influencing change, advocacy, partnership working, leadership, communication, needs assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise own workload and the skills to lead, plan, manage and review a comprehensive, evolving programme of work and to work to tight deadlines in a dynamic changing environment.
  • Understanding of, and familiarity with the further and higher education sectors and the current national policy context shaping how mental health and wellbeing is addressed within these settings.
  • Strong, demonstrable people management skills and the capacity to implement a robust performance management process.
