Description
The Donegal Sexual Abuse amp; Rape Crisis Centre (DSAamp;RCC) is a registered Irish Charity offering free counselling and support to all genders and gender identities and young people aged 14 and over who have experienced, rape, sexual assault, past childhood sexual abuse or any kind of sexual trauma in their lives. We also offer support counselling to a partner, family member or friend who is supporting the person who has been abused. We provide support throughout County Donegal. We are a member service of the Rape Crisis Network of Ireland (RCNI).
This post is funded for one year by the RTE Toy Show Appeal #RTEToyShowAppeal and will be a pilot for our service.
We are currently seeking a qualified accredited Creative/Expressive Arts Therapist (from any or a combination of these fields art therapist, music therapist, drama therapist) to provide individual creative psychotherapy services specifically to support child victims (12- 18 yrs old) sexual abuse, sexual assault, rape or any kind of sexual trauma in their lives.
Hours : 30 hrs per week or 2 posts @15 hrs pw each
Overall Purpose of the Job.
- To provide face to face creative arts therapy to survivors of sexual violence aged 12- 18 yrs in Donegal.
- To work as part of the team of staff, volunteers and management of DSAamp;RCC in the provision of a professional high quality service.

Areas of Work
- Providing outreach services as required, we are based in Letterkenny and have outreach services across the county on a part time basis
- Face to face art therapy, music therapy,or drama terapy or expressive arts therapy
- Telephone support and crisis response to our younger clients
- Attendance at supervision as necessary depending on number of hours worked
- Networking and building relationships with similar focused projects
- Maintaining and collating statistics
- Share in the responsibility of maintaining a support team which integrates paid, voluntary and trainee counsellors and other support workers
- Attendance at meetings relevant to the position of counsellor and an employee of the DSARCC.
- Attendance at management meetings in accordance with the guidelines of the organisation
- Maintaining client records in accordance with the code of practice of DSAamp;RCC and RCNI guidelines.
- Liaising where appropriate with other relevant professionals, at all times guaranteeing the clients confidentiality
- Provide a service that is guided by the code of ethics and practices according to the National Network of Rape Crisis Ireland
- As an employee of the DSAamp;RCC share in the responsibility of co-creating a centre of support and healing.
Management Structure
The employment contract for the post of counsellor will be with the Donegal Sexual Abuse amp; Rape Crisis Centre Ltd.
Clinical supervision will be funded by the organisation and provided by an accredited Supervisor.
Support and supervision will be provided by the Management of DSAamp;RCC
Requirements
Essential Criteria:
- The successful candidate will hold a professional postgraduate accredited Arts Therapy/psychotherapy qualification, preferably child and adolescent arts therapy
- Accredited by IACAT, HCPC or other relevant body.
- Min 2 years post qualification experience working specifically with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma
- Experience of working with child survivors of sexual violence and trauma training
- Commitment to and active participation in professional development
- Commitment to working as part of a team
- A flexible approach and an ability to handle a varied workload
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well under own initiative
- All Candidates must have sufficient public liability and professional indemnity insurance in place. Successful candidate will be subject to Garda Vetting and reference checks
- Clean, Full Driving Licence
- Must be able to work in County Donegal
